Summer Seems So Far Away

Am I the only one who feels like summer will never get here? I can't be the only one!

When I was younger the seasons seemed to go faster. Maybe it was that I didn't mind winter as much? I was a kid, what did I know?

I think it all changed when I started having babies. Bundling them up and having to take them out into the deep freeze that we call Michigan during winter really changed how I looked at these cold months.

Honestly, I don't mind the cold and I even like snow....until Christmas. So, if we could just have it get cold around Thanksgiving and have some snow between then and Christmas...well that would be peachy.

You're wondering why I picked Thanksgiving right? Well, for alot of years we had a family tradition of going to the Christmas tree farm to pick out our Christmas tree. We always go on Thanksgiving weekend and we always have a snowball fight. The kids love it so much. I should re-phrase that, we walk around in the snow and Scott and Jason throw snowballs at Jourdan and I. (I know, they are both creeps.)

So, that's why I wouldn't mind the winter coming for that month. But now, I'm so ready for it to be spring. Sami wants to go outside so bad! She will hold her shoes and point at the back door and just cry and cry. She loves to be outside. Doesn't matter what she is doing, she just likes to be outside.

It was so cute yesterday. We were out doing yard work while Scott was at work. By "we" I mean "me". I finally got a couple of disgruntled teenagers to help me pick up the leaves around the house and out of the basement window wells. We were picking them up and putting them in the wheelbarrel and Sami was right there helping. It was so cute, she would grab a pile of leaves and put them in the wheelbarrel. I told her she was a good girl and thanks for helping mommy. She really loved that!

I didn't mind so much being outside and picking up leaves, but it was so darn cold. I'm just so sick of the cold.

It's funny because every year, when it get's to be about the end of March/beginning of April we start getting all summer crazy. We start talking about....camping......and we keep telling each other over and over, "I can't wait to go camping."

Well, you know that we don't rough it. We have a luxury liner that we take to the camp ground. That's part of why it's so enjoyable, we have all the comforts of home....and then some. But for weeks now we've been talking about it.

We'll go out to the camper and just sit in there and talk about how we can't wait to go camping. At the beginning of the season we'll go out to the trailer and spend the afternoon out there cleaning and making our necessity list. Then we go shopping, then we spend another afternoon in the trailer putting stuff away and making sure it's ready to go, and talking about where we are going to go this year.

We've made one afternoon trip out there so far this year. We took Sami with us and we didn't have the slides put out so it was a little cramped yet. I don't think she remembers camping from last year. We went several times, but she was walking around like she'd never been in there before. I'm praying that she'll sleep good in the portable crib like she did before.

So, now that Scott is off one the weekends I'm thinking we'll have a better chance of actually camping. It was tough once I started working last summer because he worked the days I was off. Made it tough for any family vacations. Hopefully this summer we'll have the chance to go more than last summer.

  1. We will be camping in St. Ignace July 5-10 if you guys are going to be up there.... That is if I ever actually make reservations for a camper and camp site...

  2. I know what you mean. We've been talking about it but haven't made reservations. It's so hard too because our camper is so big and it only fits in a few spots. You'd think I would be on top of getting a campsite, duh! We had so much fun last summer I'm looking forward to going again.

Jason is going to Michigan Tech and he wants to visit while we're up there. He thought about Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, but decided in Tech. Yeah, it's a nine hour drive from here! I wonder who is going to do his laundry???? LOL
